Dirt Road II IV VI

From the Thin Edge New Music Collective Fundraiser, 2018

violin – Suhashini Arulanandam
percussion – Nathan Petipa

Dirt Road (2006) is an hour-long work in 15 movements for violin and percussion. The work can be performed in its entirety or in any number of movements, in any order. I chose to compose for these instruments as I had not heard of this combination before, and thought it would be a good challenge, which it proved to be. I imagined the two instruments as two travelers, moving along a simple landscape, with all of its slight or grand changes. The work was created with the assistance of a Toronto Arts Council composer’s grant. L.C.S.
