on the formation of waves is a work informed by the movement of tides. While rhythms and shifts in texture are irregular from moment to moment, a consistent undercurrent pulls the piece forward. The layering and sweeping of gestures through the ensemble aims to establish a fluid, shifting sound world. – CV

Described as “richly textural, physical, and affecting”, her music is inspired by the patterning of natural and mechanical sonic environments, and explores found objects, sonic spatialization and the unfolding of small changes over time.

Christina Volpini participated in Arraymusic’s 2016/17 Young Composers’ Workshop and Concert, during which time she wrote a new work for our ensemble under the mentorship of former Artistic Director Composer/Musician Martin Arnold.

Christina (b. 1992) is a composer based in Hamilton, Ontario. Recent and upcoming performances include commissions by Esprit Orchestra and Caution Tape Collective, as well as a solo left-hand piano work and a piece for guitar and resonating vases.

Originally from Niagara Falls, Ontario, Christina received a Master of Music in composition from McGill University in 2016, studying with John Rea. Christina is a core organizer of the Toronto Creative Music Lab, a grassroots professional development workshop for early-career artists promoting peer mentorship, collaboration, and social responsibility. She is also an arts administrator at the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra.
