In Memoriam Robert Ashley (2013)

I have been a huge fan of Ashley’s music since my student days and I wrote this piece to commemorate his death. The work super-imposes pitches and instructions on In Memoriam Esteban Gomez, one of Ashley’s early graphic compositions I had heard many years ago. It is very much an improvised composition based on Ashley’s original work. The closest to being a palimpsest my music has ever come. It was commissioned by Contact from the Ontario Arts Council.
